Big surprises in the semi-finals of the Asian Elite Boxing Championships
The semi-finals delivered huge surprises in the eighth competition day at the Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Ulaanbaatar.
China’s Olympic Games winner Wu Yu and India’s two-time World Champion Nikhat Zareen had to meet each other already in the semi-finals of the women’s 51kg. The Chinese boxer used her own tactics and she was confident in all of the three rounds to beat the Indian No.1.
DPR Korea’s An Kum Byol had the strong game plan against Chinese Taipei’s young Guo Yi Hsuan in the next semi-final of the women’s 51kg division. The DPR Korean used her longer reach and speed better in the entire contest and she earned a place in the final.
DPR Korea’s Olympian Won Un Gyong achieved her first top achievement still back in 2015 but she was not the favourite against Chinese Taipei’s Olympic Champion Lin Yu Ting. The 26-year-old Won was able to reduce the fighting distance and her heavy combinations were decisive in this 60kg semi-final.
Kazakhstan’s Bakyt Seidish also delivered a sensational success in the eighth competition day, she eliminated China’s Youth World Champion, the super talented Alimire Abudureyimu at the 70kg weight class.
India’s Priya was unstoppable in her semi-final bout, she used her longer hands well to beat Mongolia’s Namuun Monkhor at the 60kg. Her teammate, Arundhati Choudhary was also brilliant in her 70kg semi-final and she defeated Uzbekistan’s Oysha Toirova.
India’s next ace, the Olympics bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain had not only a difficult semi-final against Aziza Zokirova but the younger Uzbek proved her amazing progress to win their 75kg meeting.
Mongolia’s Bilguunsaikhan Kharkhuu had the fantastic speed once again in his 55kg semi-final contest and he surprised Kazakhstan’s two-time World Champion Makhmud Sabyrkhan which was an another unexpected result of the day.
Japan Rui Yamaguchi and China’s Liu Chuang had a sensational semi-final at the men’s 55kg weight class, the first had the intense attacks in the decisive third round.
