Brilliant young talents as Cirkovic, Fay, Kubalova, Kostrzewa and Sorensen were among the elite gold medallists in Gliwice

Several strong but young elite female boxers as Serbia’s Sara Cirkovic, Ireland’s Niamh Fay, Slovakia’s Tamara Kubalova, Poland’s Amelia Kostrzewa and Norway’s Sofia Stigen Sorensen earned gold medals at the 20^th edition of the Silesian Women’s Open Tournament in Gliwice.

Poland’s Nikola Prymaczenko joined the elite team this year but her energetic boxing paid off in the women’s 51kg final in the Silesian Open where she defeated Ukraine’s Sofya Turbinina by unanimous decision.

Serbia’s European Champion Sara Cirkovic has brilliant technical skills, she advanced to the final of the 54kg after beating France’s Aya Hamdi and she walked over to the title of the competition.

Ireland’s European U22 Champion Niamh Fay moved up to the 57kg and the 23-year-old boxer expected a hard battle against Serbia’s experienced Jelena Zekic. The Polish referee disqualified the strong Serbian in the second round after three warnings.

Anastazja Michalek eliminated the experienced Aleksandra Jankowiak in the semi-finals of the women’s 60kg weight class and she continued her winning series against Wiktoria Hass in the final.

Tamara Kubalova earned medals in European Championships as a youth boxer and she decided to compete at the 65kg weight class this year. The 21-year-old Slovakian had to miss the World Championships but she defeated Serbia’s Anastasija Lukajic to earn the title at the Silesian Open.

Poland’s Aleksandra Cyrek, the European Youth bronze medallist, developed rapidly in the recent one year, but the 19-year-old Amelia Kostrzewa was still too strong for her in the final of the 70kg.

Norway’s Sofia Stigen Sorensen, the World Youth bronze medallist, is one of the most progressed boxers at the +80kg weight class and she controlled her final over Kazakhstan’s Assel Toktassyn.
