Patricio, Safari, Basaria, Redhu and Awinongya won the best male finals at the Brandenburg Cup

Lorenzo Patricio, Mohammed Safari, Akaki Basaria, Diyanshu Redhu and Joseph Awinongya won the best male finals at the Brandenburg U19 Youth Cup in Germany.

The United States, England, Italy, Canada, Germany, Australia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Poland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Hungary, Romania, and Lithuania were all there in the event.

United States’ Lorenzo Patricio amazed in the U19 World Championships in Pueblo last year and he had the dominance to beat Australia’s Taj Harrington in the first male final of the Brandenburg Cup.

Germany’s Mohammed Al Manouchi earned a silver medal at the 2024 edition of the U19 World Championships and he advanced to the final of the 55kg weight class but he suffered a loss to England’s powerful Mohammad Safari.

Salim Ellis Bay has strong roots in boxing and the US boy succeeded over a dangerous opponent, Azerbaijan’s Subkhan Babayev and his teammate, Lavant Brownlee walked over to the title of the men’s 65kg.

Georgia had four semi-finalists in the Brandenburg Cup and among them Akaki Basaria not only joined the finals but he was capable to beat England’s Frankie Thompson for the title of the 70kg.

Australia’s lone gold medal was achieved by Diyanshu Redhu at the 75kg weight class, while Germany kept two titles on home soil. Eric Propp (85kg) and Berat Korkmaz (90kg) defeated experienced local opponents in the day of the finals which was strong selection bouts for them before the European U19 Championships.

United States’ 18-year-old Joseph Awinongya eliminated Poland’s Junior World Champion Fabian Urbanski in the semi-finals and he was too strong for Australia’s Khaled Bassal in the final of the 80kg. His compatriot, Nnajai Wright was slightly better than Germany’s Ahmed Abdulgamidov and he won the busy super heavyweight.
