Sandoval defeats Teraji, wins WBC and WBA flyweight titles
Ricardo Rafael Sandoval (27-2) is the new unified champion in flyweight division. Sandoval on Wednesday in Yokohama dethroned local favorite Kenshiro Teraji (25-2). Sandoval won via split decision. Two judges gave him clear win (117:110 and 115:112) and one saw Teraji as winner (114:113).
“It feels great. All the hard work paid off,” Sandoval 27-2 (18 KOs) said in victory. “I never stopped working since I was 10 years old. Now we’re here, and we’re [a two-belt] champion.”
In the same event Antonio Vargas (19-1-1) and Daigo Higa (21-3-3) drew in the fight for WBA World bantamweight title.
Kyosuke Takami (10-0, 8 KOs) won the WBA World light-flyweight title, stopping Erick Rosa (8-1) in round 10.
